Ruta 40 from Bogotá to Girardot
Vía 40 Express is a 150 km-long double-lane road between Bogotá and Girardot. The client will build a third lane, approximately 65 km long, running from the tunnel of Sumapaz in Melgar to the intersection with Sibaté, as well as new tunnels and bridges. The joint venture (Conconcreto & Vinci) decided in the design phase to contract a historic ATLAS InSAR study to identify critical zones along the road. The monitored study-area included up to 2 km at either side of the road covering an area of up to 486 km2.
Identification of critical zones
- ATLAS InSAR monitoring solution was successfully applied in the Ruta 40 project to monitor deformations along the road together with slope instabilities in the neraby areas. Due to the complex area being monitored, especially concerning geologic factors, the abundant vegetation and pronounced relief, C-band Sentinel-1 images were chosen. Nevertheless, X-band high-resolution images where also used to monitor the areas in urban environments.
- Ascending and descending Sentinel-1 images were used to analyse both up-down and EastWest deformations. 106 Sentinel-1 images were processed and covered the period between October 2014 and June 2018, above 500.000,00 measurement points were obtained.
