Bucharest Metro Line 5

For the construction of Bucharest Metro Line 5, Sixense implemented an integrated monitoring program for risk management during execution, both for the works in the stations and for the advance of the drilling shields.

The monitoring was carried out through several complementary technologies.

• The Atlas InSAR satellite monitoring resulted on more than 300,000 points on buildings, bridges and roofs, with an average accuracy of 1 to 3 mm.
• The precision topographic network, with automatic total stations, tracked in real time the 3D movements of the neighbouring buildings and structures in the area of influence, without the need to stop traffic and with an accuracy of less than 1 mm.
• Geotechnical instrumentation completed the system: piezometers for groundwater tracking, inclinometers installed in boreholes near excavations and in molded walls, vibrating string extensometers near molded walls and manual extensometers in tunnels, as well as tensometric marks for measuring the deformations of resistance structures. Environmental measurements were also carried out to control noise, vibration and air and water quality.
